Microsoft Exchange 2010 has Thread-Style Email Conversations

Office 14, Exchange 2010, Windows 7… Whatever the Eventual Names – I Can’t Wait!

OMG!With public and invitation only betas trickling out people are starting to get an idea of what to expect from the next generation of Microsoft’s products.

There are a lot of important new features to look forward to like Office 2010 having 64bit and cloud versions. Personally, I am most excited about the day to day things like a revamped taskbar for Windows 7, the addition of the ‘Ribbon’ to more Office applications like Visio, and Outlook’s MailTips that will warn you if you are about to pull a dreaded “reply all”. But, let me tell you about the feature I am most excited to use:

Exchange Server 2010 will have a “thread-style” view

When I purchased my first Windows Mobile OS phone a year back I didn’t even think to ask if it had thread-style text messaging. Well … it didn’t. It was only a matter of days before I broke down and went in search of a hack to fix this problem. Thank goodness the latest MS Mobile version has fixed this problem or I might have gone back to Palm. Really — it is that important to me.

Being able to use this conversation style for e-mail from right within Outlook will be great! Like G-mail — Exchange 2010’s version will, of course, be more complex than a simple chat session between two people. Emails are filtered by ‘conversation’ and includes messages from all those involved in the discussion. You can even mute conversations that you just can’t stand to look at.

What upcoming features are you excited about?
