Interesting comparison ! VMware provides lots of other features/tools and hence cost factor is more or less balanced at this point of time. If VMware slashes its prices, it would become tough competition for Hyper-V and XenServer .

From my personal perspective I believe HYPER-V is good enough for most of the companies for their requirement. VMWare is a godo matured product but that doesn't mean HYPER-V gonna wait and see they already got most of those features boasted by VMWare.
For VMware now is it tie to get down with the pricing and fight in the market.

If most of your applications and OS is microsoft would recommend hyper-v.
V-sphere is on another level. vmware just needs to tackle the cost. FT and DR in ESX4 is awesome.

This artical states that it costs $$ to purchase versions of Windows licenses under either platform and that is NOT the case. If you purchase Windows Enterprise you can run 4 Windows Server VM's or if you purchase Datacenter you can run unlimited Windows Server VM's on the hardware box. If you do the math it is cheaper than individual purchases. Plus, Microsoft bundels most of the System Center items into a single CAL that saves more money.

Hi,
I am IT professional from INDIA managing EBS 2008. I faced memory management problems in server 2008 running VMWARE . Hyper-V ran smoothly all the Guest OS.
Go for Hyper-V.

David,

I'd like to know where you did your research in the final sentence in stating there are no third party tools for Hyper-V...There are quite a few out there and furthermore, most of the tools you need to manage Hyper-V are built in, whereas what you seem to be aluding to is that if you really want to make VMware work correctly you need to buy loads of bolt ons...
